Landon and Archie were now in the hotel room. Something seemed really off about Archie but Landon couldn't figure out what. He didn't know how he could've upset Archie. "Are you okay?" Landon asked as he set his stuff down on the bed. They were in the penthouse with Gen in one of the other rooms. He didn't know if it was the fact that now Gen clearly knew or something else. Whatever it was he knew he upset Archie and wanted to fix it.

This was all too much. Archie was starting to wonder why he had agreed to go on this trip with Landon to begin with. When he said he wanted to go somewhere to celebrate, he didn't think Landon meant somewhere halfway across the country. Archie hadn't told Landon this, but he'd never actually been outside of New York before. And then there was the fact that he was sharing a bed with the boyfriend he'd only been dating for a few weeks. What if he wanted to have sex? Archie definitely wasn't ready for that. He was ready for any of this.
And then he realized that Landon wasn't even asking for a penny from him. He was paying for this entire trip with his own money (or really his parents money). It wasn't okay. None of it was okay. "I-I dunno," he said, sitting down on the edge of the bed, tapping his foot against the floor nervously.

"Yes you do," Landon said. He pursed his lips he really didn't want to upset Archie. "What's wrong?" Landon asked. He sat down next to Archie and looked over at him. He wasn't used to jot having money so he wasn't really aware that Archie wpuld he upset about that. He always had money to just throw around.

Archie bit his lip, looking out the window as opposed to looking at Landon. He was afraid that if he looked at him, he'd just burst into tears. "This is all just too much," he said. "I never would have even dreamed of being in a place like this, and you act like it's just another day." Archie sounded angry, but that's not really what he was feeling. He felt helpless. He felt nervous that the fact that he and Landon came from such different lifestyles would end up tearing them apart.

"I mean - well during the summer - it is just a normal day..." Landon said quietly. He and Gen normally went to random places during the summer and they didn't think much about the money. He didn't really think that Archie would be bothered by taht. Then again Landon didn't much about being friends or dating someone in a whole other class.
Landon normally just thought about what he could do and not how it could make others feel. "It's- just a weekend vacation I don't see what the issue is," Landon said

Archie shrugged. He didn't want it to be as big of a deal as it was for him. The last thing he wanted was to make Landon angry. "It's just that--I could never do anything like this for you," he said. "I spend a lot of my time wondering if I'm going to have to drop out of school so I can work to help my mom pay the bills. This is way out of my league." At the mention of his mom, Archie's stomach hitched. He couldn't help but worry about her whenever he wasn't home. His aunt had promised to come by the house and check on her, but it was still worrying for Archie.

"I don't need you to do anything like this for me," Landon said. His and b reaching for Archie's.
When Archie mentioned his mom Landon looked at him curiously. "What's wrong with your mom?" Landon asked. He felt like he barely knew anything about Archie. All he knew was that Archie was middle class and he liked to go on the Internet. Landon didn't know much more.

Archie shook his head. "That's not the point," he said. "The point is that you live in this world where money is just disposable, and I've been worrying about money since before I was born." When Landon asked about his mom, Archie immediately dodged the question. "Nothing," he said as if the question were ridiculous. He was not going to have that conversation with Landon yet. If he could get by without ever having that conversation, he would.

"Archie I just want to know," Landon said. He didn't understand all this stuff about money. He couldn't empathize with Archie. His dad was a director and his mom was an actress.
"So, what're you saying you can't be with me because we come from different lives because that doesn't sound logical to me," Landon said still calmly but clearly getting upset.

Archie shook his head. "No, that's not what I'm saying," he said quietly. "I'm just saying that it's hard for me. I am never going to understand your lifestyle, and you're never going to understand mine. And I don't want it to break us up, trust me, that's the last thing I want." Archie wanted to be with Landon more than anything, but it was hard for them to understand each other.
